The mother a former foster child has filed a law suit against the state and other child care providers who she believes is responsible for the alleged sexual abuse committed against her son. The lawsuit, filed in April 2011, accuses the Department of Children and Families and other local child care providers for allowing the abuse and failing to provide mental health treatment for the then 10-year-old boy of North Port, Florida, until he attempted suicide twice. The lawsuit also describes how the boy was moved to 11 different foster homes in an 18-month period. The boy, now 13-years-old, has been reunited with his mother since 2008. Among the various defendants are the Sarasota, Florida, YMCA and the local contractor for foster care services. I agree with you a 100% Thank you for your comment!!!

      • That should be Florida and awareness…Let me say this too, I cried when I read the grand jury report and I have had to read reports like that before, so I have a strong stomach because I was a CASA! But it was shameful that so many people knew but no one right by those children. I have been in the court room when the survivor had to face her perpetrator!

        • Nov21Timothy Andrews Resident of Osprey, all my kids go to Venice High. in fact, My oldest is great frneids with Tyler in which I have had him in my home. I am glad the family is pursuing this case. The whole case smells foul- I have heard police officers retired and on the force. I am a nurse who helps and heals and hears what is going on in this county. Justice will prevail I just do not understand why anyone of any educational background cannot see this is wrong. Also, Carlos Verdoni is still working as an officer, his wife is still working as a Physician Assistant in our community and they have a bar in our community that people actually go to. Hope is all we have that this justice system will finally come to the right judgement. The family of Tyler Spann has been through hell and their son wouldn’t hurt a fly. I could go on and on but truth is not being justified here.

      • So this is the stuff I miss by adiivong FB? I think certainly the internet can indulge people who are happy with merely thinking they are helping a cause, but it also makes it easier in a lot of ways for those same people to actually do something, like those who may click the links you posted and actually act.
